News The Wrapping Process

Diagram below shows the wrapping process of the Horizontal type Pillow Wrapping Machine. The wrapping film is supplied on a roll which is mounted on the machine. Film is usually plastic material but sometimes other materials based on paper or aluminium foil may be used. Film width is based on the circumference of the finished pack plus an amount to produce a seal. The roll of film is mounted on a spindle (also known as a mandrel or arbour) from which it is unrolled by the machine and, as it is pulled or driven through, formed into a tube by passing over a former. As the two edges are brought together to form the tube, they are sealed together, usually by a combination of heat and pressure, to form a continuous fin. Items to be wrapped are introduced to the tube in a timed sequence creating a regular gap between them. Their position is carefully maintained by conveying the film tube and product together and then another sealing device, again using temperature and pressure, makes two seals, cutting between them. This end seal operation creates the final seal of one finished pack and the first seal of the next. In a continuous motion, finished packs are produced in this way and are conveyed to the next process downstream in the line, such as collation and cartoning..
